KAGU Expands: Kärt Tomp Joins as Creative Network Lead

The Estonian Marketing Association’s former Communications Project Manager, Kärt Tomp, joined KAGU on September 1. Her role is to lead and support KAGU’s network of creative talent, develop the agency’s creative network, and contribute to the growth of an open creative economy. All with one goal in mind: preparing KAGU_the_agency to expand its international reach.

“It’s no secret that KAGU co-founder Katriin Hunt will be on maternity leave for the next year and a half,” says KAGU co-founder Gunnar Hunt. “But when we started thinking about finding someone to cover for her, we quickly realised that instead of simply finding a substitute, we have a great opportunity to develop and expand KAGU. That’s how an entirely new position was born: Creative Network Lead. Kärt Tomp is exactly the right person to step into this role – and, in part, to shape it herself.”

Gunnar adds that, in practice, this primarily means taking KAGU’s network of creative talent to a global level, making it more effective, strengthening its sense of community, and expanding its reach. Kärt will also be actively involved in KAGU’s creative projects. “Don’t be surprised if we come to the table with our new pack leader,” Gunnar says.

Kärt comments that when Katriin and Gunnar first introduced their unconventional approach a couple of years ago, it raised quite a few questions for her.

“How can a format-free agency even exist?” she wondered at the time. “But I’ve been following KAGU’s work from the very beginning, and I’ve come to understand that this kind of approach is exactly where our industry is heading. KAGU has simply been several steps ahead. The courage to do things differently is inspiring.”

According to Gunnar, Kärt has a talent for creating new creative connections – both between people and between concepts – and for seeing opportunities beyond the boundaries of the local market.

“My nearly five years at the Estonian Marketing Association have shown me that I know how to build relationships internationally and put them to work in different contexts,” Kärt adds. “The most recent example is bringing the international design festival OFFF to Estonia. Language skills have played an important role here as well – Spanish language and culture have been part of my everyday life for the past ten years, giving me valuable experience in an international environment.

This international experience is also reflected in my collaboration with the Embassy of Spain and with (educational) institutions in Estonia and abroad, as well as in my freelance work in marketing and communications. All of these experiences have helped me build a strong network of contacts and develop a clear understanding of which people and opportunities can lead to successful collaborations.”

P.S. Although the thought may have crossed some of your minds, we regret to announce that KAGU will not, in fact, be changing its name to KÄGU for the next year and a half.
